Product Overview

What Is a Submersible Sewage Pump?

A submersible sewage pump is a pump and sealed motor unit that works fully underwater in a wet well or tank to move wastewater containing solids. Its non-clog impeller passes sewage, sludge and debris, and the surrounding liquid helps cool the motor.

It is not a clean-water or borewell pump, which clogs on solids. A submersible aerator uses the same submerged design for a different job: it draws air into the tank and mixes it with water, so oxygen reaches the biology without a separate blower. For pumps installed above the liquid, see our self-priming pump.

  • Four series for sewage, hard-object drainage, slurry and aeration
  • No priming needed because the pump sits below the liquid
  • Suited to ETP, STP, sumps, basements and drainage
  • Installation and after-sales support in Bangladesh

Series Guide

EFK, EF, EFD or EFA: Which Series Do You Need?

Pick the series by what is in your wastewater, not by motor size alone.

Evergush submersible pump series and typical use
SeriesTypical designBest for
EFNon-clog vortex impellerRaw sewage, sumps and tanks with soft solids and fibres
EFKImpeller with tungsten cuttersDrainage with hard or stringy objects that would block a plain impeller
EFDVortex impeller with stainless agitatorSettled sludge and slurry sumps that need stirring before pumping
EFASubmersible aeratorAeration and mixing in ETP, STP and equalization tanks

Design details follow Evergush series descriptions and can differ by model. Confirm impeller type, solids passage and air rating on the datasheet of the exact model.

Comparison

Submersible vs Self-Priming Sewage Pump

Both move dirty water. Where the pump sits decides which one works better.

Comparison of submersible and self-priming sewage pumps
FeatureSubmersible PumpSelf-Priming Pump
InstallationInside the wet well or tank, below the liquidAbove the liquid on a dry floor or skid
Suction liftNone, because the pump is floodedLimited, usually about 7 to 8 m in practice
Maintenance accessPump must be lifted out, so a guide rail or chain helpsEasy, dry and above ground
Space and civil workCompact, often only a wet well is neededNeeds floor space or a pump room
NoiseLow, because the pump is underwaterHigher
Hot or caustic liquidLimited by motor and seal ratingsUsually more tolerant
Best fitDeep pits, sumps, wet wells, quiet sitesShallow tanks, frequent service, temporary duty

Values are typical figures from pump-station design guides. Always confirm against the datasheet of the exact model.

How It Works

How a Submersible Sewage Pump Works

  1. Wastewater Fills the WellEffluent or sewage collects in the sump, wet well or tank.
  2. Level Control Starts the PumpA float or level sensor starts the motor at a set high level.
  3. Sealed Motor Turns the ImpellerDouble mechanical seals keep liquid out of the motor, and the surrounding liquid cools it.
  4. Impeller Passes the SolidsA vortex or cutter impeller moves solids through without blocking.
  5. Pressure Lifts the FlowThe liquid leaves through the discharge pipe to the next treatment stage.
Aeration

Submersible Aerator vs Blower and Diffusers

A submersible jet aerator draws in its own air. A blower system pushes air through pipes to diffusers.

Comparison of submersible jet aerators and blower-diffuser aeration
FeatureSubmersible AeratorBlower + Diffusers
Air sourceSelf-aspirating, no separate blowerBlower, air piping and diffuser grid
Oxygen per kWhReported roughly 0.9 to 1.4 kg O₂/kWh for jet aeratorsReported roughly 2 to 7 kg O₂/kWh for fine-bubble discs
MixingStrong jet mixing in the same unitMixing depends on layout, sometimes a separate mixer
InstallationLower in, lift out, little pipingMore pipework and tank civil work
Best fitSmall and medium tanks, lagoons, equalization, sludge holdingLarge continuous plants where power cost dominates

For blown-air systems see our turbo blower, Roots air blower and air diffuser. Efficiency figures come from engineering white papers and vary by design.

Why Choose It

Key Benefits

A pump that stops is an ETP that stops, so reliability matters more than price.

  • No priming and no suction lift problem, because the pump sits in the liquid
  • Non-clog vortex or cutter impellers for sewage with solids and fibres
  • Compact and quiet, with no separate pump room in most wet wells
  • Stainless agitator option (EFD) to lift settled sludge for pumping
  • Aerator option that adds oxygen and mixing without a blower
  • Local engineering and after-sales support from Techno Bangla
Decision Guide

Which Pump Fits Your Plant?

Choose a Submersible Pump When

  • The sump or wet well is deep and suction lift is a problem
  • Noise and floor space are limited
  • The liquid carries solids, rags or sludge
  • You can fit a guide rail and lift the pump for service
  • Liquid stays within the pump's temperature rating

Choose a Self-Priming Pump When

  • The tank is shallow and you want easy, dry service access
  • The liquid is hot or chemically aggressive
  • The pump must move between sites
  • Pumping runs continuously day and night
  • See our self-priming open impeller pump.
Applications

Where Submersible Sewage Pumps Are Used

Any sump, pit or tank that collects wastewater with solids.

  • Textile and Dyeing ETP
  • Garment Factory Drainage
  • STP Wet Well
  • Equalization Tank
  • Sludge and Slurry Sump
  • Basement Drainage
  • Aeration Tank Mixing
  • Aquaculture Aeration
Buyer's Guide

How to Choose the Right Submersible Pump

Share these details with our engineers and we will recommend a suitable series and size.

  • Solids type and size. Soft solids suit a vortex impeller. Rags, plastic or hard objects suit a cutter series. The pump's solids passage must exceed your largest solid.
  • Flow and total head. Add static lift and pipe friction, then read the flow from the pump curve at that head. Every 1 m of head is about 9.8 kPa.
  • Liquid temperature and chemistry. Distributor listings for some Evergush series show liquid limits near 40 °C and no seawater use. Hot dye-house effluent needs a check.
  • Duty and standby. Listings for some series advise against 24-hour continuous running. Use a duty and standby pair with alternation, and confirm the duty rating on the datasheet.
  • Submergence and installation. The motor needs enough liquid above it for cooling. Use level controls to stop the pump before it runs dry.

Why Pump Reliability Matters for ETP and STP

Bangladesh's Environment Conservation Rules 2023, in force since March 2023, require factories to treat liquid waste in an ETP and sewage in an STP. The DoE has also warned factories in and around Dhaka to keep their ETPs running at all times.

An ETP is only as dependable as its transfer pumps. A blocked or burnt-out pump can halt the plant, so we suggest a standby unit. See our ETP plant and sewage treatment plant pages.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a submersible sewage pump?

A submersible sewage pump is a pump and sealed motor unit that works fully underwater in a wet well or tank to move wastewater containing solids. Its non-clog impeller passes sewage, sludge and debris, and the surrounding liquid helps cool the motor.

What is the difference between a submersible pump and a self-priming pump?

A submersible pump sits inside the liquid, so it needs no priming and has no suction-lift limit. A self-priming pump sits above the liquid, is easier to service, and is usually limited to roughly 7 to 8 m of suction lift. Deep pits favour submersibles. Shallow tanks favour self-priming units.

What is a submersible aerator and how does it work?

A submersible aerator is a submerged pump with a jet that draws air from above the water and ejects an air and water mix. It adds oxygen and mixes the tank without a separate blower. Engineering white papers report lower oxygen per kWh than fine-bubble diffusers, so it suits small and medium tanks.

Which Evergush series do I need: EF, EFK, EFD or EFA?

Choose EF for sewage with soft solids and fibres, EFK when hard or stringy objects are present, EFD for settled sludge or slurry that needs stirring, and EFA for aeration duty. Design details vary by model, so our engineers confirm the series from your wastewater and duty point.

What capacity and motor range do you supply?

Our Evergush submersible sewage pumps and aerators cover 5 to 240 m³/hr (about 83 to 4,000 L/min) with motors from 0.5 to 30 HP (about 0.37 to 22 kW). Head, solids passage and voltage depend on the model, so we confirm the right size from your requirement.

Can a submersible sewage pump run 24 hours a day?

It depends on the model. Distributor listings for some Evergush series advise against 24-hour continuous running, and every submersible motor needs liquid around it for cooling. For round-the-clock plants, use a duty and standby pair with alternation, and confirm the duty rating on the datasheet.

Is a submersible sewage pump suitable for ETP and STP in Bangladesh?

Yes, submersible pumps are widely used in ETP and STP sumps, wet wells and equalization tanks. Check the liquid temperature and chemistry first, because hot dyeing effluent can exceed some models' limits. Our engineers review this during selection and recommend a standby unit.

How can I get a quotation for a submersible sewage pump?

Send your wastewater type, required flow, total head and power supply to our engineers by phone or email. We reply with a free quotation for your ETP, WTP, STP or water treatment equipment.
